Obwohl Montecristo nicht zu den ältesten Habanos-Marken gehört, ist sie die wohl bekannteste und wahrscheinlich beliebteste Habanos-Marke weltweit. Sie stellt den Maßstab dar, nach dem viele Habanos-Raucher andere Marken beurteilen.

Zu ihrer Bezeichnung soll die Marke gekommen sein, weil Torcedores (Cigarrenrollern) der Manufaktur H. Upmannn, in welcher die Marke Montecristo um 1935 entstand, eine Vorliebe für den berühmten Roman "Der Graf von Mont Christo" des franz....
